Arline Wallace

Nov. 14, 2017

Funeral service for Arline Wallace, 92, was held Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wendell Callahan officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Johnson Chapel. 

Mrs. Wallace died Nov. 14 at her residence.  She was born June 27, 1925, in Morgan County to Lovick S. McAbee and Laura A. Watkins McAbee.  She was a Lunchroom Manager for Neel School in the Morgan County School System.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Wallace, her parents, brothers Carl McAbee, Buddy McAbee, Alvin McAbee, William McAbee and David McAbee and three sisters, Inez Higdon, Faynell McAbee and Bobbie Whitlow.

Survivors include: one son, Mike Wallace, Hartselle; one brother, Neil Quattlebaum, Hartselle; and one sister, Shelba Sims, Decatur.

Pallbearers were Jared Rowe, Tommy Owens, Ronnie Pickens, Don Long, Truman Wallace, Mike McAbee and Steve Whitlow.

Charles F. Smith Sr.

Nov. 2, 2017

Funeral service for Charles F. Smith Sr., 70, was Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brad Roath officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hartselle City

Cemetery. 

Mr. Smith died Nov. 2 in Tennessee. He was born Feb. 1, 1947, in Ohio to Owen Earl Smith and Gertrude Elizabeth Dorsey Smith. He was employed in switch maintenance for the Tennessee Southern Railroad. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and an “Angel Grandbaby.”

Survivors include his wife, Mildred “Billie” Smith, Decatur; one son, Charles F. Smith Jr., Ashburn, Ga.; one daughter, Denice M. Blake (James A. Blake), Hartselle; one brother, Ron Smith (Shelia), Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Barbara Litwiller (Milton), Sarasota, Fla., and

Karon Rathgeber (Bob), Ft. Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren, Teresa M. Blake and James O. “L.J.” Blake; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Mary Jane Terry

Nov. 11, 2017

Funeral service for Mary Jane Terry, age 68, of Hartselle was Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with brother Tom Watson officiating. Burial was in the Grange Hall Cemetery in Trinity with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Terry, who died Nov. 11 in Lawrence County, was born March 3, 1949, in Mississippi to Hershel Junior Hollis and Mary Virginia Woods Hollis. She is a member of the Holy Church of Christ and was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jimmy Dale Terry and a son, Stacey Dale Terry.

She is survived by a daughter, Darlene Sutton of Vinemont; one brother, Jerry Thorn of Winston County; six sisters, Helen Martin and Dianne Hollis, both of Hartselle, Bonnie Smith of Moulton, Virginia Mauffray of Decatur and Lisa Dial and Kristi Kemper, both of Trinity; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Brandon Berry, Daniel Sutton, Luther Johnson, Benjamin Styles, Ronnie Stinson and Steven Stinson will serve as pallbearers.

Donnie Mauffray and Chris Mauffray will be honorary pallbearers.

Joe Murphy  

Nov. 8, 2017

Mr. Joe Murphy, age 75, of Falkville, passed away Nov. 8 at Falkville Health Care Center.

He was born Jan. 31, 1942, to Carl and Myrtie Carnell Murphy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Armstrong and sister Margaret Tillman.  

Survivors include his son, Joseph Murphy; daughter, Jackie Clark; brother, Bradley Murphy; sister, Joy Coots; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.  

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

James Richard Maxcy

Nov. 15, 2017

James Richard Maxcy, 78, of Hartselle, passed away Nov. 15 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born May 25, 1939, in Red Bay, to Rex Grover Maxcy and Sarah Elizabeth Hardin Maxcy.  He was employed as a mechanical engineer for the Robert Shaw Company prior to his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one sister, Becky Teague (Edward), Hartselle.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Barbara Dillard Holladay

Nov. 13, 2017

Funeral service for Barbara Dillard Holladay, 85, was Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Phillip Dillard officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery (south of Danville).

Mrs. Holladay died Nov. 13 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.

She was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Georgia to Walter Lee Dillard Sr., and Mamie Lee Shaw Dillard.  She was a home economics teacher for the North Pole High School, in Alaska, prior to her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Dr. Walter Dillard Jr., William Dillard and Bruce Dillard; and one sister, Constance Dillard Moore.

Survivors include her husband, Kyle Holladay, Danville; two sons, Richmond Dillard Holladay (Vicki), North Pole, Alaska, and Scott Alan Holladay (Brenda), Fairbanks, Alaska; two brothers, Byron Dillard (Laurie), Lynchburg, Va., and Dr. Phillip Dillard (Carolyn), Cedar Town, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Francis Dillard and Laverne Dillard; and two grandchildren, Anita Morgan Holladay and Ian Raines Holladay.
