Priceville council hosts luncheon for local seniors

PRICEVILLE- The Priceville community likes to give back each year to those who humbly give of themselves during major town events – the local senior citizens.
Mayor Melvin Duran said the council has been providing a meal at Thanksgiving and Christmas for Priceville seniors for many years at the senior center.
“We do this every year as a way to thank them for all they do for us and the community,” Duran said. “They work many different events and don’t always get the gratitude they deserve. So this is a small way to recognize what all they do.”
Duran said the local seniors, who call themselves 50-plus, help with stuffing Easter eggs for the annual Easter egg hunt and organizing and giving out candy for the Christmas parade – among other efforts.
“Our senior center is not like a lot of other towns’ centers,” Duran said. “We don’t have a sponsored building by the state; we provide the things needed to run it. We truly enjoy doing so.
“For several years my wife cooked all the food that was provided in the meals, and we’ve had as many as 120 attend. Now we get it catered from different locations. It is something we look forward to doing, and they look forward to coming.”
This year’s Thanksgiving luncheon was held Nov. 20.
