A report was recently released detailing heavy metals found in drinking water in North Alabama; however, Hartselle Utilities officials said water provided by Hartselle Utilities is not connected with the symptoms mentioned in the previous press release.
“The safety and wellness of Hartselle Utilities’ water customers is of the utmost importance,” a Hartselle Utilities spokesperson said. “In light of today’s press conference held by the Warriors for Clean Water, we want to ensure our customers that we take the quality of our drinking water very seriously. We have and will continue to conduct all appropriate measures to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water to our customers.”
According to Hartselle Utilities, Hartselle’s water supply comes from Decatur Utilities, which has issued a press release in response to the press conference. It can be viewed at www.decaturutilities.com.
Hartselle Utilities is not one of the systems mentioned in the press conference and does not provide water to the region referenced in a study alleging a link between levels of heavy metals in local drinking water and instances of kidney failure.
Testing of Hartselle Utilities water supply is conducted at the direction of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency. No advisories about the safety of the water in Hartselle’s distribution system are in effect at this time, nor are any expected.
