Lady Patriots Lamitie, Brazelton qualify for state

By Staff
Lack of experience produced disappointing results for Coach David Estes and the Brewer High School track and field squad.
"Although both teams finished the season with winning records, only two athletes qualified for state in 6A, Section 5," Estes said.
"I believe if we had been in 5A this year, we would have qualified a bunch of athletes. I'm looking forward to the change to 5A next year."
The varsity boys finished 1-8 at the sectional meet, with a season mark of 42-41-1. The varsity girls fared better, finishing 4-5 at the sectional meet and finishing the season with a 58-27-1 record.
Only Lynsie Lamitie and Elizabeth Brazelton qualified for state competition.
Lamitie took first place in the javelin with a toss of 95 feet, 8 inches and in the discus with a throw of 99 feet, 3 inches. She also finished fourth in the shot put.
Brazelton placed second in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump.

Sarah Thomas was eighth in the 800-meter run, while Pam Stephenson finished eighth in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs.
