District One Commissioner Jeff Clark is working to develop the 40-acre facility, located at the intersection of Highway 67 and Bethel Road.
Former commissioners, the late Danny Huskey, Joe Summerford and Charles Sparkman all developed county parks in their districts.
Included in the approved funding were $66,669 for fencing of baseball, softball and soccer fields.
John Deere Landscapes won the bid for irrigation materials at the park at $22,687. County workers will install the system, according to Clark.
The bid for grass at the new park went to Sod Pro, Inc. The proposed contract has several options including $27,000 for 30,000 square yards of either roll sod or squares. It also includes options to rent a sod-laying machine at $75 per day, have Sod Pro do the whole installation for $57,000, or provide sprigging for $15,000.
"The last two items are optional," Clark said. "We are going to try to do at least 80 percent of the work ourselves."
The commission also authorized the rental of a trenching machine for the park for $1,000 per month.
