Danville-Neel nets $18K literacy grant

Danville-Neel Elementary School recently celebrated the installation of 10 classroom collection sets of award-winning children's books worth more than $18,000.
Each set contained over 70 hardback editions awarded through an $18 million Coca-Cola Corporation Reading Is Fundamental grant, the nation's largest and oldest children's and family literacy organization.
In addition to the grant, the school is tentatively scheduled to receive a site visit from the mobile literacy awareness vehicle Story Travelers.
"This is a little like heaven for our teachers and students," Danville-Neel Elementary Reading Coach Linda Owens said. "We have worked diligently to put books in the hands of our children.
"This is one step closer to our vision of 'Everyday Educational Excellence' and ensuring 'No child is left behind," she said.
Shelia James, media center specialist at Danville-Neel Elementary, said books will be beneficial to both students and teachers.
"This is a dream come true," James said.
"These books will help our children and teachers to reinforce the passion and love for reading. These books we received will open doors to the world for our children."
