Graveside service for Marvin Ford Posey, 85, was Friday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Foreman and Presley Watson officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Posey died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Decatur General Hospital. A native of Jefferson County, he was founder and president of Austinville Boxing Club for 23 years and a member of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was wounded twice serving as a motorcycle messenger for Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Elk's Lodge.
He was the father of the late Michael Posey and the brother of the late Harold Posey and Flaa Posey.
He is survived by his wife, Freedus Mae Posey; one son, Thomas V. Posey of Decatur; two daughters, Connie Watson of Hartselle and Teresa Rainey of Moulton; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson of Decatur and LaLane Thomas of Lacey's Spring; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were George Bolden, Marty Posey, Kin Evans, Tom Posey, II, Jimmy Watson, Joey Watson, Chad Terry and Roger Rainey.
