Stingy defense, hot shooting lifts Danville to win over Speake

Boys win, but Lady Hawks drop third straight

DANVILLE – The Danville Hawks outscored visiting Speake 34-11 in the second half and cruised to a 64-30 win Monday night.
Nate Orr led the charge with 18 points.
In girls action, the Lady Hawks fell 47-30.
Danville 64, Speake 30
A balanced scoring attack in the first quarter allowed Danville to jump out to a 17-7 lead.
Speake pulled within seven at the 2:50 mark of the second quarter, but that was as close as the Bobcats could get.
Speake did not hit a field goal from the 1:33 mark in the second quarter until 5:28 remaining in the contest – A span of more than 11 minutes.
Cody Camper scored 16, while Matt Young added 12 to complement Orr's 18.
Speake 47, Danville 30
Girls
Speake's Star Orr scored 18 points in the win.
Jessica Hazel and Mallory Alred scored the only two field goals in the first half for the Lady Hawks, as Speake leaped out to a 28-10 lead at the half.
Hazel led Danville with eight points, while Alred had six points and six rebounds. Brittney Walden had a team-high nine rebounds, while Angel Orr scored six and pulled down eight boards.

Danville 73, Elkmont 55
Friday
Cody Camper lit up visiting Elkmont for 20 points and eight rebounds in the win. Twelve of those points came in the third quarter, as the Hawks built a 55-38 lead.
D.J. Bridges, a sophomore, entered off the bench and scored 16 points with eight rebounds. Matt Young had 13, while Nate Orr scored 12 points and grabbed 10 boards.

Elkmont 56, Danville 37
Friday
Brittney Walden scored 14 points in the loss.
Danville trailed 31-18 at halftime and could get no closer.
Charleston Wilson scored eight points for the Lady Hawks, while Angel Orr had seven rebounds.
Priceville 42, Danville 39
Thursday
The Lady Hawks were down 15-4 at the end of the first quarter but pulled within two by the end of the third. Priceville held on down the stretch for the win.
Mallory Alred scored 13 points had seven steals. Jessica Hazel had 10.
