Troopers out in full force
By Staff
Alabama State Troopers will be on alert throughout the 102-hour Thanksgiving travel period. The travel period began Nov. 27 and ends at midnight Dec. 1, according to Col. James Alexander, state public safety director.
The Alabama Department of Public Safety estimates 17 people may be killed in traffic crashes during the holiday weekend.
Last year, 10 traffic accidents occurred during the holiday period, nine on rural roads and one in an urban area. At least five of those deaths were alcohol related and six of the victims were not wearing a seatbelt.
