Funeral for Richard Hancel Glover, 84, of LaFayette, Ga., formerly of Hartselle, was Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Hartselle with the Rev. Brooks Barkley officiating. Another funeral was held Wednesday night, Nov. 27, at the Wallis Memorial Chapel at 7:30 p.m.in LaFayette with Dr. Todd Gaddis officiating.
Mr. Glover died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Shepherd Hills Health Care. A native of Winston County, he was the widower of Kathryn Livingston Glover. He was the brother of the late Jewell Davis, Lucy Falkner, Virginia Glover, Joseph Glover, Howard Glover and Grant Glover.
Mr. Glover taught math and science in junior high and high schools for 37 years in Alabama. He received his masters and education specialist degrees from Peabody College at the same time as his wife and two of her sisters. They were the only members of the same family to have achieved that honor.
Mr. Glover served in the U.S. Navy for six years during World War II as a member of the Seabees in the South Pacific and on Guadalcanal.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hartselle and a lifelong member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He was a past member of the Morgan County Sheriff's Posse.
He enjoyed farming and raising cattle when not involved in school activities.
He is survived by one daughter, Belvia Glover Gilbert of LaFayette; one brother, Clint Glover of Haleyville; one sister, Flo Reynolds of Double Springs; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
