Falkville Lions ready for Christmas giving

The holidays will be much brighter for many needy families this year, thanks to the efforts of some local elves.
The Falkville Lion's Club will hold its annual Christmas event Saturday, Dec. 21 at 4-6 p.m. in the old Woodman building on Culver Road to benefit local needy children and families.
Falkville Lion's Club President Ronnie Richards said this year has been the busiest in many years.
"The Lions have been able to help approximately 50 families and more than 100 children this Christmas," Richards said. "And we're getting more requests every day."
Richards said area churches, school systems, businesses, individuals, and Morgan County volunteer services have enabled the Lions to help so many less fortunate families in the area.
"I think this has just been a bad year, economically, for everyone," Richards said. "But folks are still being very generous."
The Falkville Lion's Club will distribute Bibles, canned goods, blankets, and personal items to families on Saturday and Santa Claus will distribute toys to children.
"The kids can also have their picture made with Santa," Richards said. "We figured many needy children might not get to go to the mall and have it done."
Richards said donations are still being accepted for Christmas and for year-round charitable causes, such as eyesight conservation.
"Right now there are nine local patients waiting for eye surgery," Richards said. "The Lions also pay for eye glasses and leader dog training."
