HMC spreads holiday cheer

Each department at Hartselle Medical Center has been busy decking the halls this holiday season.
HMC recently held its annual departmental holiday door-decorating contest choosing an angel theme for this year's challenge. Kathy Goodwin, HMC marketing director, said each department has put much thought toward and time in to their entries.
"The contest is completely voluntary," Goodwin said. "Our employees know that the extra decorations help brighten the holidays a little for patients, their families, and other visitors during such difficult times."
The new Day Unit department received first place, the pharmacy department received second place, the Intensive Care Unit department received third place, and the laboratory department received fourth place ribbons and prizes for their entries.
"The angel theme was chosen because all the employees here at HMC are 'Angels of Caring,'" Goodwin said. "Even through the holiday season, Hartselle Medical Center is here to serve the people of Hartselle and surrounding areas 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
To say thank you for the extra hours employees will log during the holidays, and those already accumulated during the normal work year, HMC management held a Christmas Employee Appreciation party at David's Catfish Cabin.
"HMC realizes and truly appreciates all of the hard work and dedication from each employee," Goodwin said. "The annual Christmas dinner is just a small way to say thanks and celebrate the holidays."
Goodwin said fifth grade students of Crestline Elementary School were also on hand Dec. 20 to sing Christmas carols and further spread holiday cheer at HMC with the Senior Circle.
"Area churches have also stopped by to carol for the patients and volunteers have decorated a Christmas tree in the waiting area," Goodwin said. "The holiday spirit here at Hartselle Medical Center has just been amazing this year."
