Reeves, HJHS off to strong start

By Staff
The Hartselle Junior High 7th grade girls basketball team has opened its season with a 9-2 record.
HJHS 35, West Morgan 28
Lauren Dye and Dana Lacey led the 7th graders to an opening-game win.
Both Dye and Lacey scored nine points, while Lacey pulled down seven rebounds. Anna Reeves scored eight points, had six boards and eight steals.
HJHS 39, Liberty 12
Head coach Christy Ferguson has 13 girls on the team – 10 of them scored against Liberty.
Reeves was the only player in double digits, though, as she scored 11 points. Dye had six points, while Meagan Beck, Emily Roden and Lacey each scored four points. Kristen Clemons, Holly Starr, Heather Speegle, Olivia Adams and Kayla Byford all chipped in two points apiece.
HJHS led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
HJHS 18, Monrovia 14
Ferguson said "it was a good defensive game." With only 32 points scored, that may be an understatement.
Reeves led the way with 11, while Adams, Speegle, and Dye scored two points each. Lacey pulled down seven rebounds.
Oak Park 29, HJHS 27
HJHS missed 17 free throws in its first loss of the season.
Reeves scored 10 points, Lacey had eight, Roden scored five, while Shauna Clemons scored two. Speegle had a team-high nine rebounds.
