Hartselle Church of Christ minister Philip Hines was recently cited for his leading role in combating the effort to secure legal liquor sales in Hartselle.
1991-January 16, Philip Hines was recognized for outstanding community service by the Chamber of Commerce and the Clean City Association.
1921-January 17, Prohibition enforcement officers have recently uncovered what they believe to have been the biggest distilling section of Alabama until a few days ago-a remote area of Marshall county, 20 miles east of Hartselle, where there were seven stills that had been in almost continuous operation. The moonshiners were warned in some manner of the approach of the officers and everything had been taken away and concealed by the time they got there.
1990-January 18, Merle Roberts was today honored for noteworthy civic activities by the Chamber of Commerce.
1912-January 19, A. J. Stinson has now completed more than a quarter of a century as postmaster of Falkville. He has given entire satisfaction to all in this important position.

2001-January 22, Hartselle native Don Logan, chairman of Time, Inc., is a leading candidate to receive the magazine industry's highest award. The winner will be announced at a ceremony to be held at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York early next month.
