Blue Devils, Hawks split doubleheader

FALKVILLE – Falkville and Danville split a doubleheader Friday, with the Blue Devils winning 5-1 in the opening game and the Hawks winning 13-5 in the nightcap.
In the first game, it was all about Jamie Newcomb.
Newcomb, who started the game for Falkville and earned the win, also did his job at the plate.

In the first inning, Newcomb blasted a two-run shot over the left field wall, giving the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead.
Falkville cushioned its lead to 5-0 in the second inning, with Newcomb playing a major role.
Cory Simpson started the inning with a double and scored one batter later when Ross Summerford doubled. With Summerford and Jeremy Stiles on base, Newcomb doubled to the fence, making the score 5-0.
Danville starting pitcher Matt Lindsey gave way to Bryan Johnson for two innings before Sam Roy finished the game. Neither Johnson nor Roy allowed a run.
Dustin Terry scored the Hawks' only run, due to an error.
In the nightcap, Matt Young pitched four innings, gave up two hits and allowed a run for the 13-5 win.
Young received help from Cory Weaver and Terry on the mound.
Danville hammered out 15 hits on Falkville, including three from Craig Poole, and two from Josh Biggans, Thomas Hopkins, Dexter Wimberley, Matt Lindsey and Young.
Young also registered two stolen bases.
Junior Varsity action…
Danville's JV squad defeated Priceville 7-3 behind Lindsey's pitching effort.
Lindsey allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five in the win. Hopkins was credited with a save.
At the plate, Hopkins and Thomas Garner both went 2 for 3. Hopkins scored three runs.
Adam Cochrane had one hit and drew three walks. He scored twice.
