Hartselle's golf team places 13th at Cherokee Ridge

UNION GROVE – The Hartselle High School golf team brought home a 13th place finish out of 22 teams Monday, at the Arab High School Cherokee Ridge CC Invitational.
Hartselle ace Martin Agnew and Robert Turney turned in the low rounds for the Tigers, both shooting +9 (81).
Hunter Robert shot a +10 (82), Dustin Burch shot a +14 (86), while Travis Wages ended the day at +17 (88).
As a team, the Tigers shot a 330, 29 strokes off the pace of Grissom who won its fifth tournament in a row.
Hartselle, now 27-30 on the season, has seen its up and downs, according to head coach Jack Napier.
"We've had a pretty good season so far," he said. "The record doesn't show how good we have been playing."
Agnew, considered the team's No. 1 player, has a 76.4 stroke average. This season he has one two separate matches.
Roberts hit his stroke average Monday. Roberts' 81.8 average is less than half of a stroke better than Turney's 82.2.
Burch averages an 83.8, while Wages just breaks 90 at 89.6.
"We are in a real tough section," Napier said. "But, I think if Martin (Agnew) plays well we are capable of beating any team in the state."

have a couple of things working in their favor for the state tournament.
Athens, according to Napier, was the team to beat last year. The Golden Eagles finished atop the 16-team section, with Boaz being second.
"Athens lost a few to graduation, and we have beaten them already this year," Napier said. "Boaz dropped to 4A this year, so we have a good chance to sneak up on some people and get in the tournament."
Last season's Hartselle team fell short of going to the state tournament by six strokes. This season, despite the record, Hartselle has beaten every team in the section it has played. The only team out of the section the Tigers are yet to play is Scottsboro.
Girls playing well…
The Hartselle Lady Tigers are 10-3 on the season, led by Megan Wimberley.
Wimberley averages a 96 and has earned five first place finished this season. She also was placed on the All-Tournament Team at the Athens Invitational.
Mary Agnew, Meagan Gillot and Stephanie Sivley are also contributing to the strong season.
