Just a few years ago, Hartselle High's head basketball coach Johnny Berry said he had 60.
This year, he wants 200.
Berry announced the 2003 Hoop Squad Hartselle Tiger Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 9-13.
"We've got it all line up for a big camp this year," Berry said. "Our goal is to get 200 kids in here and really try to teach them the game of basketball."
Berry will have some of his former players and coaches from Hoover at the camp also.
There are three camp sites. Campers in the first through third grade will be at Burleson Elementary School, fourth through sixth graders will be at Sparkman Civic Center, while the seventh through ninth graders will be at Hartselle High School. (All grades are based on the 2003-04 school year.)
"This is a great camp," Berry said. "I'm very proud of it."
The camp is for both boys and girls at a cost of $65. Family discounts are available.
Each camper will receive a free Hoop Squad Shirt and will compete for prizes in several games during the camp. Each camper will be covered by accident insurance.
