Thompson earns literary award
Hartselle High School 2003 graduate Whitney Thompson was recently awarded the school's Literary Arts Award for her essay about growing up in Hartselle. She plans to attend Auburn University this fall.
She is the daughter of Jan and Phillip Thompson of Hartselle.
Blackwood earns masters degree
Leah Hoover Blackwood graduated in December from UAB with a Master's Degree in Collaborative Teaching.
She graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was honored in April as the 2003 Outstanding Alumni for the UAB Department of Education-Leadership, Special Education, Foundations, and Technology Division.
She will begin teaching as an adjunct instructor this summer at UAB and is currently working on her doctorate at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Blackwood is a Spanish teacher at Hartselle High School.
Residents tapped for honorary
The Wallace State Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society recently inducted several local residents.
Named to the honorary were: Leslie Anis Tanner, Danville; Amber Nicole Newman, Eva; Lucas Evan Brasher, Falkville; Joseph Perry Shands, Jenny Leanne Shaneyfelt, Amy Elizabeth Slate and Christen Renee Stephenson, all of Hartselle; Deanna Jo Bishop, Somerville.
