Board choice draws fire

Decatur's Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer is the newest member of Hartselle's school board. But the appointment of officer Greg Cain has upset some members of the Hartselle City Council, who question his friendship with another school board member.
"Mr. Cain is an extremely close friend of (School Board member Jeff) Mr. Gray, who is also the mayor's son-in-law, City Councilman Don Hall said. "I fear we are creating a tight sphere of influence that is not good for the city."
Hall and Tom Chappell voted against Cain's appointment. Council members Dick Carter, Frank Jones, Allen Stoner and Mayor Clif Knight voted in favor of the appointment.
Cain replaces school board member Joe Berry, who did not seek reappointment because of illness.
