We are pleased with the opportunity to write this new article and to be able to share with you what the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce is doing for our area.
On June 16th, the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce and CRI Copeland sponsored an event for area industries. More than 30 industry leaders were in attendance for this event.
John Hatfield with Morgan County Economic Development Association (MCEDA) presented a program on incentives for new and expanding industry. John informed industry leaders of tax abatements, capital investment tax credit, and the industrial development grant program (site preparation grants). Craig Linhoss, Economic Development Specialist, with TVA Economic Development, spoke on the resources TVA has to help existing industry expand as well as TVA energy resources available to help them reduce their energy costs and cost of business. Jon Anderson concluded the meeting with a few brief comments on chamber membership, lunch was provided and a tour of Copeland was given.
The chamber has been working with Hartselle Beautification Association in scheduling and promoting this years Music in the Park series. The series began in June and will end with a bang at September's Depot Days concert. The concerts are held in E.A.R.T.H. Park, the environmental park in downtown Hartselle behind Joe Roberts, every Thursday night at 7 p.m. The schedule offers a variety of music styles for every taste. This past Thursday night the air was filled with classic rock &roll as performed by Dam Skippy. This week we will have Strider (Lew Koch) performing Tin Pan Alley and Vaudeville followed by Funk Cocktail performing a variety of music such as Latin, jazz, rock, reggae and blues, just to name a few.
In early celebration of Independence Day we will have free watermelon (while supplies last). I encourage you to come out, bring your lounge chair, picnic dinner, etc. and enjoy the festivities. Please keep an eye out in the paper for this month's calendar of entertainers.
Preparation is well under way for the 2003 Depot Days Festival. This year promises to be even bigger and better than before. Along with the traditional activities we have a surprise or two up our sleeves.
