South named to president's list
Jamie South of Hartselle was recently named to the president's list at the University of Montevallo. To be named to the president's list, a student must earn a grade point average of at least 3.8.
Downey earns scholarship
The University of North Alabama recently awarded Jason Downey of Hartselle the M.M. Striplin Endowed Scholarship.
Downey, a sophomore at UNA, is majoring in professional chemistry with a minor in physics. He has also received the American Chemical Society's Division of Polymer Chemistry's PolyEd Award for Academic Achievements in Organic Chemistry.
Downey is a graduate of Hartselle High School and is the son of Sandra and Eddie Downey.

Drinkard earns ROTC honor
Josh Drinkard has received the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training
Corps) Academic Distinguished Student Ribbon for achieving and maintaining outstanding academic grade performance.
The recipient is a student at Texas A&M University, College Station, and a member of the Corps of Cadets at the university. The ROTC program equips cadets with the leadership and management skills needed to become a U.S. Army officer or have a successful civilian career.
He is the son of Danny D. and Kathryn E. Drinkard of Falkville.
The cadet is a 1999 graduate of Albert P. Brewer High School.

Christian women meet July 11
Decatur Christian Women's Club invites you to go back in time as "oldies" are performed by Leah Roden, Beth Bole and Deanna Anderson at the Friday, July 11 luncheon. The luncheon will be held 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Decatur County Club, 2401 Country Club Rd. Former school librarian, Kathy Stallings of Birmingham, tells how a "plain vanilla" person can move beyond the ordinary in life to the extraordinary. Complimentary childcare will be provided by reservation. Mothers are asked to bring a sack lunch for each of her children. Reservations and cancellations are required for both the luncheon and childcare.
