Swimmers heading to state

Many Hurricane swimmers qualify at district championships and will compete at state

GUNTERSVILLE – Eight Hartselle Hurricane individual swimmers and 11 relay teams will participate in the Alabama State Swimming Championships next weekend, after qualifying at the ARPA District II Swimming and Diving Championships last week.
Many swimmers eclipsed personal best times at the meet.
"We had a really good swim this past weekend," head coach Jenny McFee said. "Almost all the children swam their fastest time all year. We were really pleased."
Corey Holt highlighted the day, finishing first in the 15-18 breaststroke event.
Aubrey Eve finished second in the eight and under breaststroke event and Jessica Horton was third in the eight and under 25-yard freestyle event.
Blaine Holt finished fourth in the eight and under individual medley and fifth in the 25-yard butterfly. Dan Filiatrault placed fourth in the 13-14 breaststroke, Brittany Borden placed ninth in the 100-yard and 50-yard freestyle in the 15-18 division, and Zac Blanton finished eighth in the 15-18 butterfly.
Heather Smith qualified by finishing seventh in the eight and under individual medley.
Jordan Brunner, Aubrey Eve, Jessica Horton and Heather Smith comprised two state bound relay teams. The team finished fourth in the eight and under free relay and fifth in the medley relay. The team was seeded ninth heading into the free relay event, but moved up five spots to secure state.
Taylor Bean, Katie Kohlenberg, Hayden Watts and Kayla Wilson also make up two state bound relay teams. The four finished sixth in the free and medley relay.
Hartselle's medley and freestyle relay team also will compete at state. The team is made up of Dustin Bowen, Daniel Filiatrault, Michael Fredricks and Austin Johnson.
Zac Blanton, Corey Holt, Kevin Jones and Tyler Willis make up two teams heading to the state meet. They all make up the free and medley relay teams.
In girls relay action, the Hurricanes will send both the free and medley relay teams. Brittany Borden, Whitney Hayes, Haley Spivey and Nicole Wilson make up the teams.
The eight and under free relay team also will get an invite to the state meet. Blaine Holt, Nathan Roark, Galen Smith and Greg Filiatrault make up the team.
Many other swimmers participated in the event but did not qualify for state, including Breanna Riley, Rachel Fredricks, Mary Filiatrault, Meaghan Arundel, Alexa Womack, Toni Wilson, Doug Teuscher, David Filiatrault, Kaitlynn Stevens, Ashley Stevens, Rachel Puckett, Hannah South, Brianna Womack, Marti Clevenger, Allie McKleroy and Sarah Roark.
