Local karate students do well in Open

Eliff brings home first place

DECATUR – Alex Eliff placed first in the nine-and-under intermediate weapons division, as several other Chappell's Karate students placed high at the River City Open Karate Tournament.
Eliff also placed fifth in the seven-year-old intermediate forms division.
Cassidy Haney placed second in the seven-year-old intermediate sparring and seventh in forms. She placed eighth in the nine-and-under intermediate weapons.
Alan Durham was second in 10-13 beginner weapons, third in beginner forms and fifth in boys sparring.
Heather Russell placed sixth in both the nine-and-under intermediate weapons and forms.
Other students competing were Charles Gibson, Joshua Bradford, Amber Smith and Alex Thompson.
