Airport lands grant

Hartselle's airport will soon be growing, thanks to a federal program.
U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer (D-Ala.) recently presented a check for $280,000 to city officials at Hartselle's Rountree Field Airport for expansion of the airport's existing apron.
Cramer secured funds for the project in the 2003 Omnibus Appropriations Act through the federal Airport Improvement Program.
"Small airports like this often get overlooked," Cramer said. "I'm pleased to hand this $280,000 check to the city of Hartselle. I am committed to searching for ways to improve our infrastructure here in North Alabama. Access to quality transportation is key to recruiting new business and economic development to our community."
Cramer said it took more than a year to secure funds for the Rountree Field Airport apron expansion project through the House Appropriations Committee.
"This project is just part of our economic development master plan for North Alabama," Cramer said. "I think it will make a huge difference."
Rountree Manager Stoney Powell thanked Cramer directly during the ceremony and said expansion is set to begin during the first week of September.
