Lady Tigers struggle to one win, three losses

Hartselle's lone win comes against Cullman

CULLMAN – The Hartselle volleyball team lost three of its last four games after splitting with Cullman and Arab Monday.
The team is now 18-7, but may take a hit today when the new Class 4A-5A poll comes out. At press time, Hartselle was ranked fifth in the poll.
Arab def. Hartselle (22-25, 25-21, 15-11)
Hartselle trailed most of the first game before staging a comeback and getting a win. However, Arab bounced back in games two and three for the win.
Sarah McNutt had 10 kills in the match, while Anna Byrd had 13 digs. Shan Jones had five blocks, McNutt had four, while Sarah Whitlow and Easton Eubanks had three a piece.
Hartselle def. Cullman (25-12, 25-18)
The Lady Tigers had little trouble beating their rival.
Jones had seven kills in the match, while McNutt had four and eight blocks. Eubanks had five blocks, Byrd, playing the libero position, had six digs, while Whitlow, Melanie Mitchell, Michelle Major and Kayla Orr all had two kills each.
Buckhorn def Hartselle (25-16, 24-26, 15-12)
It was a battle of two highly-ranked teams in Class 4A-5A, but Buckhorn, ranked fourth, got the better of Hartselle.
Whitlow notched 21 assists but could not help her team to a win. McNutt had 12 kills and nine blocks, Jones had five kills and five blocks, Byrd had seven digs, Major had four kills and five digs, and Mitchell notched three kills and four digs.
Easton Eubanks added six blocks.
Austin def. Hartselle (25-21, 25-20)
Hartselle started last week with a loss to Austin.
Major had four kills, McNutt had three and four blocks, while Whitlow added 10 assists, five digs and two blocks.
Byrd added six digs.
