Funeral for Frances Price, 94, of Decatur was Saturday, Oct. 11, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Charlie Brown, Sandra Locke-Godbey, and Asa Boozer officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Miss Price died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at her residence. She was born Aug. 6, 1909, in Priceville to James Edwin Price and Mary Julia McGlawn Price. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James S. Price, and sisters Julia Price Crawford and Martha (Geny) Price Gilchrist.
Miss Price was a retired teacher, having taught 48 years in Morgan County. She taught at Priceville School 23 years and at F. E. Burleson in Hartselle for 25 years. She was the recipient of the 1973 Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America Award, and after her retirement received the Outstanding Service Award from Hartselle Civitan Club, the Diana Award from the Gamma Beta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and the Distinguished International Academy of Noble Achievement Award.
A lifelong Methodist and a long-time Sunday School teacher, Miss Price was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and a former member of Priceville United Methodist Church and Hartselle First United Methodist Church. She was well-known for her humanitarian efforts and attention she gave the sick and shut-ins.
Miss Price was a member of the Col. John Robins Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Retired Teachers Association, the National Education Association, and the Alabama Education Association.
She is survived by one brother, Edwin Price of Ormand Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth Price Kirby of Decatur and Alma Thomas (Tommie) Price Kelly of Ben Hur, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Don Suggs, Dan Price, John Gilchrist, Bill Gilchrist, Hank Kimbrell and Donnie White.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley or Priceville United Methodist Church.
