Hood, Scruggs exchange vows
Heather Hope Hood of Somerville and Jamie Ryan Scruggs of Carthage, Tenn., were married June 28, 2003, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Somerville.
The Rev. Harlon Hood, father of the bride, and the Rev. Roger Hobbs officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of the Rev. Harlon and Anne Hood of Somerville. The groom is the son of Curtis and Mattie Scruggs of Carthage.
The bride was given in marriage by her father.
The church and altar were decorated with white columns and an arch draped in green ivy and spider moss featuring a large arrangement of pink and white gladiolas. Large ferns and silver candleholders were also used.
The bride chose a strapless gown of white satin and silk organza featuring a pleated bodice. The silk organza skirt was edged at the hem with three bands of satin and flowed into a chapel train. She wore a cathedral veil sprinkled with diamonds and gathered to a bandeau of sea pearls and diamonds. Her bouquet featured pale and bright pink tea roses with Lisianthus, Eskimo white roses and Vogue roses.
Sasha Hood of Somerville, sister of the bride, was maid of honor.
Attendants were Elisha Landers of Somerville, Carissa Eckstein of Somerville, Erin Hinderer of McKinney, Texas, Jodi Ellison of Louisville, Ky., Gretchen Scarbrough of Augusta, Ga., and Christina Hunt of Marietta, Ga.
Autumn Scruggs of Carthage was flower girl.
The bride's attendants wore two-piece periwinkle gowns and each carried three calla lilies tied with pink organza ribbon.
Allen Scruggs of Carthage was best man.
Groomsmen were Curtis Scruggs of Carthage, Keith Goolsby of Carthage, Michael Foster of Scottsboro, Chad McGinnis of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jonathan Kennedy of Stephenson, and Joseph Hackett of Mufreesboro, Tenn.
Candle lighters were Joseph Hackett and Jonathan Kennedy.
William Christopher of Birmingham was ring bearer.
Music was provided by soloists Dale Windsor, Boyce McCutcheon and Beth Carter; musicians Priscilla Russell, Marie Hagood, and the Shiloh Bell Choir directed by Ray Baker.
Cindy Eaton was wedding director. Sherry Kirby coordinated artistic designs.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the church.
The bride's table featured a three-tier square cake decorated by Stargazer lilies on a silver cake stand.
The groom's table featured a chocolate University of Tennessee cake, cheesecake, chocolate chip cookies and white chocolate dipped pretzels in a chocolate bowl.
Sherry Baker coordinated the reception with the ladies of Shiloh Baptist Church assisting.
Laura Tidwell, cousin of the bride, and Holly Atchley attended the bride's book.
The couple left the reception in a white carriage drawn by white horses. They honeymooned in Destin, Fla., and will reside in Birmingham.

Lambert, Sims exchange vows
Tina Gail Lambert of Cullman and Mark Lee Sims of Hartselle were married Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. at Beachside in Orange Beach.
The Rev. Richard Jensen officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Mary L. Hughes and the late William E. Hughes. The groom is the son of Mrs. Ann B. Sims and the late Dr. Raymond "Mac" Sims.
The bride was given in marriage by her son, Austin Todd Lambert.
The bride wore a strapless formal gown of white satin accented by mother of pearls. Her headpiece was a matching tiara surrounded by calypso flowers.
She carried a bouquet of red and white roses and calypso flowers with green ivy.
Cindy Higdon of Gadsden was maid of honor.
MacKenzie Dufrene of Decatur was the flower girl.
Steven Berrardi of Atlanta, Ga., was best man.
Music was provided by the six-member band "Speck."
A poolside reception was held following the ceremony at the Sands Condominiums.
The bride's table featured a three-tier white cake with seashell accents.
The groom's table featured a single layer chocolate cake with seashell accents covered by strawberries and grapes.
John Shindelbower of Adswork, Inc. was the wedding director.
The reception was catered by Amelia's of Orange Beach.
The couple will reside in Decatur.
