HU, city may meet again

Councilman Frank Jones is sending an olive branch to Hartselle Utilities.
Jones, who's also a member of HU's board of directors, said he would like to see the council meet with HU at least twice a month. The school board should be included in the meetings, too, he said.
"I think it would be a good thing if we could all get together and discuss future plans," Jones said.
In the past, a representative from HU attended the city's weekly department head meeting. Earlier this month, Mayor Clif Knight sent a letter to HU, saying their presence at the meetings was no longer needed.
In a letter sent to HU General Manager George Adair, Knight said, "it is no longer desired that you or your designated representative attend our weekly staff meetings."
Knight said communication between the two bodies would be better served through Jones.
HU is not a city department and operates independently of the city council and mayor. However, the council appoints members of HU's board and in the past several years, has opted to name one of its own to the body.
Jones brought up the idea of the monthly meetings at the council's most recent meeting. Knight did not respond to the idea.
Councilman Tom Chappell did have something to say about the matter, however.
"I think we should reconsider inviting them (HU) to the (city employee) meetings," he said.
