People accustomed to parking along Rook Street are having to change their ways.
Hartselle's City Council has designated the entire length of the street as a tow away zone.
Anyone's car parked along the street will be subject to being picked up without notice and at their expense.
The move comes because of safety concerns in the area, particularly the portion of the street in front of Valley Auto Sales.
"It's a safety hazard and an inconvenience for anyone driving on that street," Councilman Frank Jones said.
The council originally considered making just the portion of the street in front of Valley Auto Sales a tow away zone. However, Police Chief Ron Merkh suggested the entire street be designated as no parking.
"(Because of) the narrowness of the street, it's in the best interest to make the whole street a tow away zone," Merkh said.
The designation is the first since the council passed an ordinance earlier this month allowing it to name a street or area as a tow away zone.
