Mr. Wayne A. Shaffer, 82, of Hartselle, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at his residence. He was born June 14, 1921, in Morgan County to Bill Shaffer and Esther Mullins Shaffer. He was retired from Monsanto in Decatur where he had worked as an electrician. Mr. Shaffer was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 3rd Armored Division under General Patton. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of St. Vifth. He worked in the C.C. Camps in 1938 and 1939. He was a member of the West End United Methodist Church in Hartselle.
A memorial service will be announced later by Peck Funeral Home.
He is survived by one son, Gene Whitten of Gulf Shores; four daughters, Annette Shaffer of Hartselle, Mary Townsend of Decatur, Brenda Davis of Speake, and Edna Halbrooks of Hartselle; one sister, Retha Higginbotham of Campobello, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
