Funeral for Clyde J. Bates, 68, of Falkville was Friday, Jan. 9, at 1 p.m. at Roundtop Community Church with the Revs. Chris Smith and Gary Miller officiating and Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Bates died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Carraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham. He was born Nov. 29, 1935, in Morgan County to John Bruner Bates and Audie Texie Bell Bates. Mr. Bates retired after 35 years from ConAgra. He served as fire chief for Falkville Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He was a school bus driver and foreman for Morgan County schools for five years. Mr. Bates was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was very proud of his 50 years as a truck driver. He was a member of Roundtop Community Church.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie L. Bates of Falkville; two sons, Billy R. Bates of Decatur and Joestus Bates of Danville; two daughters, Nellie Bates Slate of Hartselle and Brenda Bates of Falkville; four brothers, Earsie Bates of Falkville, Hubert Bates of Shalimar, Fla., Larry Bates of Hartselle and James Bates of Decatur; and four grandchildren.
