A look back

By Staff
Researched by Dr. Bill Stewart
The appearance of new businesses and the exodus of older ones is particularly common at this time in the new year.
1886 -January 22, There have been many business changes in Hartsell since January 1. Some have moved, some have quit business. Matters are very quiet in business circles now, which are very dull.
2001 -January 22, Mayor Clif Knight has proposed raising the city's property tax by ten mills. Proceeds would be used in part to induce more taxpaying and job-producing businesses to locate here. Additional revenue would permit constructing sewer and water lines to the interstate and make property there even more attractive commercially.
1951 -January 23, After successfully operating his Hollywood Drive-in Restaurant for more than five years, Edward Summers has now taken a position with the U.S. Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal.

1950-January 27, Floyd F. Anderson has succeeded Guy D. Roberts as president of the Hartselle Chamber of Commerce.
1913-January 28, C. A. Leeman is now manager of the Tennessee Valley Bank at Falkville.
