Funeral for Grady Stanley Kirby, 87, of Decatur was Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sandra Locke-Godbey officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Mr. Kirby died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at his residence. He was born April 30, 1916, in Morgan County to George Henry Kirby and Dovie A. Owens Kirby. He grew up in Hartselle and later moved to Decatur. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the 3rd Army, 5th Division, Company M, 11th Infantry. He was awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, and the EAME Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars. He took part in the Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central European campaigns. Mr. Kirby was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Frances Bailey Kirby.
He is survived by one son, Charles S. Kirby of Decatur; two daughters, Patricia Jean Kirby Tyree and husband Travis of Moulton and Sandra Faye Kirby McLeod and husband Thomas of Gulf Shores; devoted family friend, Kathy Terry of Decatur; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bobby Groves, Steve Burney, Matthew Grissom, David Grissom, Thomas Terry and Bryan Terry.
