Junior High Tigers win Decatur Invitational

The Hartselle Junior High Tigers captured the 2004 Decatur Junior High Invitational last week. The Tigers finished the year 19-1 by beating Athens in the final 62-46. Hartselle raced to a 17-8 lead at the end of one period and never looked back.
The Tigers lead grew to 41-22 at halftime behind a pressing defense that created 18 steals. Manques Jones led the Tigers with seven steals followed by Josh Slaten and Marques Jones with three each and Luke Boyle with two. The steals set up several fast break lay-ups as Hartselle blew the game open in the opening half.
When Slaten sank a three-point basket to open the second half the Tigers had their biggest lead at 22 points.
Hartselle made the finals by beating Cedar Ridge 46-37 in overtime.
