BHS, FHS compete in indoor tourney

The Brewer Patriots and Lady Patriots will compete this Friday and Saturday in the 5A Class of the state indoor track and field championships at Priceville. Falkville will also be entering its boys and girls teams in the championships; they will compete against the 1A-4A Classes.
According to local coaches the Brewer girls have several chances for medals, among them the 4 X 200-meter relay team. The relay team made up of two seniors Sarah Thomas and Elizabeth Brazelton and two juniors Erica Collier and Amie Estes. Thomas will also compete in the 800-meter run, where she is expected to be a contender for the title. Brazelton will compete in the high jump along with Collier, both Lady Patriots are contenders for the state title.
On the boys side junior Marcus Greenleaf who ran third in the 55-meter dash last year will be back for another try in this year's event. Brewer sophomore Joseph Burton will be a contender in the 400-meter run.
Falkville will be a contender for boy's titles in the 4 X 400-meter relay. Other Blue Devils expected to make strong showings are freshman Cody Sewell in the High Jump and senior Matt Rich in the shot put. Lady Blue Devils expected to excel at the meet include senior Jada Jones in the shot put; Jones finished second in state in the outdoor meet last summer. Caylor Sewell, Cody's twin sister, should be a contender in the high jump.
The championships begin Friday at noon at the Valley Sports Coliseum in Priceville.
