Bud Stallworth was possibly the best basketball player to come out of Hartselle.
2003 -February 19, Although his playing days have been over for a long time, Hartselle, Alabama's Bud Stallworth is still an integral part of the Kansas University community. A consensus all-American in 1972, Mr. Stallworth now heads up design and construction management for KU. His outstanding people management skills of today match his superb basketball prowess of three decades ago.
1959 -February 20, Scotty Maples has played exceptionally well as a stellar guard on the MCHS basketball team this season.
1919 -February 21, Morgan High boys are celebrating big wins in two recent basket contests. The locals defeated Cullman High by a score of 21-17 and followed this up by beating St. Bernard College by a margin of 28-25.
2003 -February 21, Hartselle defeated Gardendale 61-53 in overtime at Tom Drake Coliseum today, giving them the class 5A northwest regional basketball championship. They will take a 24-11 record to the state tournament in Birmingham.
1924 -February 22, It is hoped that several coaches from this area will be able to take the course in athletics this summer under the direction of University of Alabama Coach Wallace Wade. This will include football, basketball, baseball, and track. Coach Wade will be assisted by Coach Henry Crisp.
2003 -February 23, Guard Zac Ward sets the pace for Hartselle's basketball Tigers, averaging 22 points per game. Statistics show he's also number one in assists and steals.
1970 -February 24, Bud Stallworth, one of Hartselle's most athletically talented products, is completing a highly successful season with the Kansas Jayhawks.
2001 -February 24, Hartselle beat Ramsay 69-66 in session 12 of the class 5A basketball tournament today.
1971 -February 25, Hartselle looks to be in a good position to win the state 3A basketball championship in Tuscaloosa this weekend. Colbert County, led by Leon Douglas, will provide stiff competition, however. Charlie Russell of the Tigers is playing exceptionally well also. Lothian Smallwood is the MCHS head basketball coach.
