CULLMAN – Three local athletes won their events at the Cullman Invitational track meet on Saturday. Brewer's Elizabeth Brazelton won the girl's high jump, Priceville's Meagan Harper won the junior varsity discus and Kathryn Kirby won the varsity discus.
The Cullman Invitational featured 16 of the top high school track teams in the state.
Brazelton who jumped only 4-10 on Monday at Fairview was determined to jump better on Saturday.
"I didn't feel too good Monday," Brazelton said. "It was cold there too, I just wasn't myself and finished second. I think I'm going to win today."
True to her prediction, she won the event with a leap of 5-2 to beat second place finisher Jessica Geisen of Cullman who jumped 5-0.
Brazelton and Geisen had shared the silver metal earlier this year at the state indoor championship when they both jumped 5-0.
Brewer's Erica Collier finished fourth with a jump of 4-10.
Kirby won the discus with a throw of 92-1.5. Kirby was also fifth in the shot put at 28-6.
Harper won the JV discus with a throw of 79-9. Harper was second in the shot put with a throw of 27-8.
Brewer's Marcus Greenleaf finished second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.52.
