Residents want to take the thrill out of popular hill

Residents of an area popular with hill jumpers are looking to take some of the thrill out their neighborhood.
A petition bearing the names of 57 residents along the Moss Chapel and Ausley Bend Road area was presented to Hartselle's City Council recently. The area is known as "Thrill Hill," and residents say cars in the area travel at high rates of speed.
A traffic study conducted on Moss Chapel Road last year showed more than 39 percent of the traffic in the area exceeded 35 mph. The speed limit in the area is 30 mph.
Residents are asking rumble strips, devices designed to slow down traffic, be installed on Moss Chapel Road, parallel to Moss Chapel United Methodist Church. Residents also want a "Stop ahead" sign placed on Moss Chapel Road at the end of the rumble strips and a stop sign be installed at the intersection of Moss Chapel, Meadow View Circle and Boonie Dale Lane.
Following the resident's requests, City Attorney Larry Madison suggested the council have an engineer look at the area and decide if the strips would pose a safety hazard.
The council has tabled the requests until the engineering study can be conducted.
