Tigers take two at Cullman

CULLMAN – Hartselle at Cullman– it brings to mind thoughts of one of the most intense rivalries in the state of Alabama. Hartselle was at Cullman Saturday, but the Tigers didn't play the Bearcats.
In a unique doubleheader, the Tigers and Bearcats took turns playing 6A powers Spain Park and Clay-Chalkville. Hartselle and Cullman both swept their two games.
Hartselle 11, Spain Park 1
The Tigers broke open a close game with seven runs in the fifth inning. Chris Kohlenberg had a three RBI double in the inning to spark the Tiger's rally.
Justin Youngblood was 2-for-4 with a run scored while David Cameron had a hit and a RBI. Nick Bates had a single and scored twice. Logan Whitlow as 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Craig Womack had a hit and two RBIs.
Brandon Wallace picked up the win with four innings of one-run pitching. He struck out eight and walked one. Wallace is now 4-3 on the season.
Hartselle 4, Clay-Chalkville 0
Zack Andrews pitched a five-hit shutout of the Cougars. He struck out five and allowed no extra base hits. He is now 6-0 this on the season. The shutout was aided by three fine defensive plays by the Hartselle outfield. Hunter Brasher in left made two running catches to prevent extra base hits. Later Justin Youngblood threw out a runner at third who tried to advance on a single to right-center.
The Tigers scored first in the top of the third when Michael Scott entered the game as a pinch runner for Logan Whitlow. Scott stole second and went to third on an error then came home on another throwing error.
Hartselle scored three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. Youngblood and Alex Thompson reached on singles followed by a two RBI double by Ja'Cote Ward. Ward scored on David Cameron's single.
Hartselle is now 13-5.
