Paper drive benefits fire department

Staff Reports, Hartselle Enquirer
A new Enquirer subscription drive beginning this week will benefit the city's Fire Fund.
Five dollars from every new one-year subscription to the Enquirer will be donated to the Fire Fund. Three dollars from every renewal and $2 from every $18 senior citizen's subscription will go towards the fund. The Enquirer kicked off the drive with a $100 donation.
"We're excited about this subscription drive because we feel this is a community project we all should support," Publisher Leada DeVaney said. "We hope the funds generated by this drive will go towards improving the safety for all our residents."
The Fire Fund was established last year after three people were killed in a blaze at Quail Run Apartments. A young family, including a 5-month-old child, died in the blaze. At the time, Hartselle's fire department did not have the ladder truck needed to extinguish the blaze so firefighters were forced to wait until trucks from a neighboring city arrived to extinguish the fire.
Shortly after the blaze, the city purchased a ladder truck, but money is still needed to construct a new fire station and purchase equipment.
To make sure your donation, call Circulation Manager Mandy Sibley at 773-6566, ext. 22 and say you'd like to subscribe and have a portion of you're subscription go to the Fire Fund. Or, you may write "Fire Fund" on your renewal form.
