Danville takes third in 'Shootout'

Lady Hawks improve to 19-6

The Danville softball team took third place in the North Alabama Shootout while the Hartselle JV lost in the quarterfinal round of the 11-team tournament. The Lady Hawks then whipped Hanceville on Monday and are now 19-6 this season.
Danville 3, Brookwood 2
The Lady Hawks whipped the Class 5A visitors from Tuscaloosa County behind the pitching of Katie James. James threw five innings of three-hit ball and allowed two runs. James walked three and struck out five while improving her record to 6-5 this year.
Kristy Roberts, Kristen Sparkman and James scored the Danville runs. Roberts went 2-for-3 with a triple while Cassie Sparkman drove in one run and Bethany Evans drove in two runs with a double.
Danville 13, Fairview 5
Kristen Sparkman improved to 8-0 with a five-inning four-hit performance. Sparkman walked six and struck out four.
Kristy Roberts and Katie James drove in two runs each while Cassie Sparkman and Kayla Voketz drove in one each. Roberts scored three runs and stole two bases of the Lady Hawk total of seven. Cassie Sparkman and Charleston Wilson stole two each while James added one. Cassie Sparkman scored three runs while Voketz scored twice. Wilson was 2-for-4 with a double and a single.
Heather Bowen added a triple for the Danville offense.
Danville 6, Hartselle JV 0
The Lady Hawks eliminated the Lady Tigers from the tourney behind the pitching of Katie James. James threw a two-hitter and struck out six while not allowing a runner past second base.
Cassie Sparkman drove in three runs for Danville and scored twice while going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Tanya Howard was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI triple. Kristy Roberts went 2-for-4 including a double, stole two bases and scored twice.
Emily Templeton was 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run scored. Charleston Wilson, Haley Hensley and Bethany Evans each had one hit and scored once.
Oxford 6, Danville 0
The Lady Hawks failed to collect a hit and lost in the semi-finals.
Kristen Sparkman lost for the first time this season and slipped to 8-1. Sparkman allowed six hits and walked four, but allowed only one earned run.
The other runs scored due to Danville errors.
Danville 13, Hanceville 3
Kristen Sparkman won for the ninth time against one defeat with a one-hitter on the mound. Sparkman allowed six walks and struck out eight in five innings.
Kristy Roberts went 1-for-4 with two walks and scored three times. Roberts also collected five stolen bases.
Emily Templeton was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Charleston Wilson went 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs on a home run.
Katie James and Haley Hensley had one hit and scored once while Mallory Alred stole a base for the Lady Hawks as they improved to 19-6 this year.
