Burglar nabbed by victims

A Moulton man may have been armed when he entered a home on Cherry Street recently, but the intended victims turned out to be tougher than the would-be burglar.
Harlan Dale Reeves, 46, of Moulton was arrested May 13 after entering a residence at 212 Cherry St. in Hartselle.
"Reeves was wearing camouflage, a face mask and gloves," Hartselle Police Department Lt. Tom Sparks said. "He had hot dogs to feed to the dogs at the residence to distract them. The people inside the residence saw the man in their yard and called police. Reeves then entered the rear door of the house and the people inside approached him. An altercation ensued and the people at the residence held Reeves until police arrived."
According to Sparks, Reeves was armed with a loaded Marlin 44-40 rifle, which the unnamed residents retrieved. After police arrived at the scene, Reeves was transported to Hartselle Medical Center where he received staples in his head to mend injuries received in the altercation.
No one inside the residence was injured.
Sparks said the incident resulted from a tumultuous domestic situation involving Reeves and someone believed by Reeves to be inside the residence.
"I believe if the person he was looking for was inside the residence the situation would have been much worse," Sparks said.
Reeves was arrested for first degree burglary, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, menacing, resisting arrest, and giving a false name to an officer. He was transferred to the Morgan County Jail where he was held on $20,000 bond.
