Two deaths, including that of a 10-year old boy who died in a clothes dryer, marked the July 4 weekend in Morgan County.
Clint Weeks, 10, was pronounced dead July 4 at Marshall Medical Center in Arab. The boy, who lives in the Hulaco-Ryan community near Arab, died from injuries he sustained in a household clothes dryer. Officials are unsure if he was placed in the dryer, or crawled in it himself. Officials confirmed the dryer was on and that another child and a teenager were at the house at the time of the death.
" Due to the circumstances of his (Weeks') death, the Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the facts surrounding this incident," Bartlett said.
An autopsy was conducted in Huntsville Tuesday. The cause of death was determined to be suffocation and hypothermia.
In a separate incident, deputies responded to a July 4 call at Aladdin Trailer Park, Lot 16, on Highway 231 in Lacey's Spring. There they found Luis Alcazar-Miranda, 28, of Mexico, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Huntsville Hospital. He died Tuesday.
Investigators at the scene determined he had been shot by his girlfriend, Evelyn Marquez, 35.
According to the Sheriff's Department, the mobile home at the scene was occupied by Alcazar-Miranda, Marquez and Alcazar's brother, Victor Alejandro Alcazar-Miranda, 25. Officials said an argument broke out between Luis Alcazar-Miranda and Marquez around 1:30 a.m. Victor Alcazar-Miranda tried to intercede and was attacked by his brother.
Marquez then allegedly retrieved a .25 caliber piston and shot Luis Alcazar-Miranda once.
Marquez is charged with one of murder, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of resisting arrest. She is being held in the Morgan County Jail.
