Last Saturday's funeral services for Luther Roberts featured eloquent tributes to the life and leadership of this superb Hartselle citizen by ministers Philip Hines and Harold Thompson. Enquirer archives over a period of many years abound with references to the contributions of this outstanding man.
1953 -July 15, Luther Roberts is rendering effective service as Morgan County's new tax collector. Governor Gordon Persons appointed Mr. Roberts to this position in January.
1935 -July 16, Luther Roberts is currently in St. Louis taking a course in retail business.
1974 -July 17, Luther E. Roberts is heading up the new Hartselle branch of First Federal Savings and Loan.
1941 -July 18, Local merchants Luther Roberts and Bill Stewart are new members of the Rotary Club of Hartselle. (Mr. Roberts later succeeded Mr. Stewart as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives.)
1943 -July 19, A commercial air field is being established just west of the city limits of Hartselle by a group of air-minded young Hartselle men. Luther Roberts, J. E. Stone, and Hubert Mitchell are the movement's leaders. The organization will be known as the Hartselle Flying Service.
1959 -July 20, Pvt. Thomas E. Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther E. Roberts will be assigned to Company B, 6th Battalion, 2d Training Regiment, at Fort Jackson, S.C., for eight weeks of basic combat training.
1969 -July 30, Luther Roberts' men's wear store in Hartselle is currently getting lot of new merchandise in. They will have a significantly expanded inventory for the back-to-school shopping season.
1948 -July 21, Members of Hartselle Rotary Club committees will meet next week at the home of L. E. Roberts to plan club activities for the coming year. Besides Mr. Roberts, those attending the planning session will include M. H. Broom, E. E. Maddox, D. W. Mcneill, Dr. W. H. Block, M. H. Bradley, Phil Wasson, L. R. Palmer, and C. T. Cash.
1952 -July 21, Luther Roberts may be the only incumbent who will be serving on Hartselle's city council after local elections are held next month. His ongoing service will provide continuity of experience in city government.
