Funeral for Melvin F. Waterman, 87, of Hartselle was Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Segars officiating.
Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Waterman died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Minneapolis, Minn. He was a disabled, decorated, combat-wounded veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W., the D.A.V., and the military order of the Purple Heart. Mr. Waterman retired from Schaefer Corporation in Madison in 1980, where he worked as Plant Engineer. He served as manager of the Hartselle Airport in 1982. He also served on the Hartselle Utilities Board, as well as managed Hartselle Utilities from 1982 to 1986.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Faye Waterman of Hartselle; one son, John C. Crow of Decatur; four daughters, Joan Browning of Hartselle, Beryl Mae Lamb of Vancouver, Wash., Karen Jean Marcucci of Washougal, Wash., and Janice Wright of Port Richey, Fla.; ten brothers, Harvey Waterman of Odenton, Md., Harold Waterman of New Hope, Minn., Glen Waterman of St. Cloud, Minn., James Waterman of Richfield, Minn., Richard Waterman of Coon Rapis, Minn., David Waterman of Waverly Iowa, Donald Waterman of St. Michael Minn., Russell Waterman of Avon, Minn., Kenneth Waterman of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Robert Waterman of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Smogard of Plymouth, Minn., and Mrs. Lucille Garner of Upland, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tommy Browning, Alex Stewart, Craig Lawrence, Todd Phillips, Alton Riethmaier, and Byron Russell.
Honorary pallbearers were Men of The Purple Heart.
