1894 -Aug. 19, The primary election held yesterday resulted in an overwhelming election victory for Democratic Representative Joe Wheeler. This is General Wheeler's eighth nomination for Congress, which is equal to election in this Democratic bastion.
1910 -Aug. 19, It is estimated that there are approximately 700 Republicans in Morgan County. This total includes both white and black voters. R. L. Sherrill of Hartselle is one of the most prominent members of the Grand Old Party.
1898 -Aug. 20, Hon. Joseph Wheeler is now a candidate for Congress in the eighth district without opposition. Judge Richardson of Huntsville and Hon. Samuel Blackwell of Danville and Decatur have withdrawn.
1915 -Aug. 21, The annual reunion of the Confederate veterans of Morgan County was held here yesterday. All greatly enjoyed the speech of Congressman J. Thomas Heflin.
1915 -Aug. 22, Morgan County will be in Alabama's 10th Congressional district along with Colbert, Jackson, Lawrence, Lauderdale, Limestone, and Madison counties if a bill recently approved in the state Senate becomes law.
1885 -Aug. 23, Republican T. J. Simpson has been named postmaster at Hartsell by President Arthur. He succeeds S. S. Stinson who was in the office during the previous four years. Postmasters are always members of the party occupying the White House without regard to the wishes of the district Congressman.
1909 -Aug. 24, Labor Day will be celebrated in Morgan County this year under the auspices of the Rural Free Delivery Carriers' Association. Congressman Richardson will speak.
1918 -Aug. 25, Congressman Almon believes that the national fuel administration will soon require the public to cease the use of all classes of automobiles on Sundays. Gasoline is in critically short supply due both to increased domestic demands and extensive military operations in France.
