Hartselle First United Methodist Church celebrates milestone

Hartselle First United Methodist Church will celebrate 130 years of faith and service with a weekend-long celebration Aug. 27-29.
FUMC plans for the weekend to be a time of fellowship with old friends and family, as well as an opportunity to invite people looking for a church home to see the many service and worship opportunities available.
This special weekend begins Friday, Aug. 27 with a musical celebration in the sanctuary at 7-8:30 p.m. featuring choir, hand bell, instrumental ensemble, quartet performances and much more.
The weekend continues Saturday, Aug. 28 with a time of reunion for all former youth groups and Sunday school classes that have existed during the history of the church.
FUMC's current Youth for Missions group will sponsor a golf tournament Saturday morning with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. The four-man scramble fee is $50 per person or $200 per team and includes green fees, cart and lunch at Quail Creek Golf Course.
The event will be followed by a short program and fellowship at 3 p.m. in the Ministry Center, featuring numerous pictures of church events through the years on display with former teachers and youth workers present.
Saturday evening, Cotton Patch Gospel will perform at 7 p.m. in the Ministry Center. An ice cream and dessert social will follow.
FUMC will follow its regular service schedule Sunday, Aug. 29 with Sunday school classes at 10 a.m., services at 8:45 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. A covered dish luncheon will follow. Those attending are asked to bring the following items: Last names A-M, meat dish to feed 12-16 people; Last names N-Z, vegetables, fruit or dessert to feed 12-16 people and drinks.
FUMC Church Historian Cherie King, Catherine Ann Sims and Sarah Light are gathering information to update the rich history of FUMC. However, the account will not be ready and printed in time for the celebration. Those with any old pictures of church events they would like to share, please bring them by the church office with contact information on the back.
