More improvements could be on the way for Hartselle's Rountree Field.
Hartselle's City Council is seeking a $150,000 Alabama Department of Transportation grab to purchase eight acres of land north of the runway. Last Tuesday, the council approved setting aside $3,750 as matching funds for the grant application.
The eight acres lie under a guide path easement, limiting development on the ground below. The land is owned by private parties and this is the second time the city has applied for the grant to purchase the property.
"It's a very desirable application to turn into the state," Jeff Johnson of the city's building department said.
This is the second grant airport grant the city has applied for in recent months. The first would finance the construction of hangars at the airport. That grant, also through ALDOT, would be for $536,757, with the city providing matching funds of $13,763.
