The late Harold McClanahan, a football standout at Morgan County High School, now Hartselle High School, during the post World War II era, was inducted into the Hartselle Football Hall of Fame at the Fall Sports Banquet Monday night.
To commemorate the honor, Morgan County Circuit Judge Glenn Thompson presented an engraved plaque to McClanahan's widow, Carolyn McClanahan.
Also present for the ceremony was the honoree's brother, Jack McClanahan.
"My husband loved football and all other sports as well," said Carolyn McClanahan, "and he excelled in most of them. Thank you for honoring him. This means so much to our family."
"Harold was an outstanding athlete. He was always in the chase for an athletic adventure," his bother said.
McClanahan graduated from Morgan County High School in 1947.
He was a five-year starter in varsity football and a four-year letterman in varsity basketball.
He played left halfback in the Tigers' "Notre Dame Box" offense.
His duties included running, passing and punting. He was co-captain of the 1946 team, which averaged scoring more than 20 points per game.
He was the youngest Boy Scout on record in the state at the time to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was a certified aquatics instructor and an award-winning diver and tennis and handball player. He also was an avid golfer and surfer.
McClanahan retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel after 26 years of service.
