Danville, Priceville take second in holiday tournaments

New Hope Christmas Tournament
The Danville Lady Hawks took second place in the New Hope Christmas Tournament on Dec. 28. Danville lost to the hosts, 59-49, after whipping North Sand Mountain to reach the tourney final.
Lady Hawks 71,
Lady Bisons 49
Megan Linderman led four double-digit scorers as the Danville Lady Hawks won for the seventh time this season, 71-49, over North Sand Mountain in the opening round of the New Hope Christmas Tournament. Linderman scored 16, followed by Jessica Hazel with 14, Bethany Evans with 12 and Lauren Simmons with 10.
Danville turned a seven-point first period deficit into a 25-point lead by outscoring the Lady Bisons, 51-19, during the second and third periods of play.
Emily Templeton added eight for Danville, while Mallory Alred had four and Haley Hensley and Kassie Cowart had two each.
Hazel grabbed nine rebounds and Evans handed out four assists. Hensley had three steals, while Linderman had four more thefts.
Lady Indians 59,
Lady Hawks 49
New Hope blew open a close game with a 17-3 run in the second period of play to grab a 29-12 halftime lead.
Danville made a push in the final period on a 21-13 run, but couldn't get closer than double digits.
Charleston Wilson had three steals, while Hazel led Danville on the boards with 12 rebounds.
Hazel and Evans led Danville with 13 points each, while Linderman and Alred added six each. Hensley, Simmons and Wilson had two points each, while Kristen Sparkman added a free throw.
Speake Christmas Tournament
Priceville 64,
Shoals Christian 44
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 11-2 with a 20-point win. The game was tied at halftime, but Priceville went on a 39-19 run over the second half.
Tiffany Smith scored a game-high 22 points and six rebounds, while Jessi Smith had 15 more. Kristy Barker had 11, while Emily Jenkins had a fine all-round game with nine rebounds, seven points and six assists. Kathryn Kirby had five, Tiffany Bracken two, and Stephanie Hardiman and Abbie Harris had one free throw each.
Speake 58, Priceville 55
Speake High School's Lady Bobcats, now 7-5 this year, rallied in the second half to defeat Priceville's Lady Bulldogs, now 11-3 on the season, 58-55, in the finals of the Speake Christmas Tournament Dec. 29.
The Lady Bulldogs, who were No. 10 in Class 2A going into the game, were ahead by six points at halftime.
Kylie Black paced the Lady Bobcats with 22 points and 12 rebounds and Pinata Orr added 18 points. Magen Hensley added eight points and Whitney Sparks had six points and seven rebounds.
Jessica Smith had 19 points and four steals for the Lady Bulldogs. Emily Jenkins added 13 points and Kristy Barker had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Speake 72, Falkville 34
The hosts led by 17 points at halftime and were never challenged.
For the Lady Blue Devils, Lauren Estes had seven points, while Andrea Tucker and Katie Defoor had six each. Tara Tucker had five, while Katie Ward and Kayla Widener had four each. Alisha Sparkman added two more points for Falkville.
River City Classic
Eufaula 71, Brewer 48
Brewer had a seven-point halftime lead, but Eufaula scored 45 second-half points to take the win.
Courtney Scott had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Lady Patriots, while Andrea Crawford had nine more. Heather Childers and Andrea Persle had eight points each, while Nichole Hayes had five, Heather Gore and Ashley West had two each, while Mewagan Hormel added one free throw.
Selma 73, Brewer 52
Brewer High School's Lady Patriots, 7-8 overall, fell to Selma's Lady Saints, 9-3, 73-52, in the River City Classic in Decatur on Dec. 29.
Selma led at halftime, 40-33.
Heather Childers paced the Lady Patriots with 15 points and seven rebounds. Courtney Scott followed with 11 points and seven rebounds. Nicole Hayes had three points and six assists and Ashley West had six points.
